I’ll be gone

Businesses come and go quickly and sadly vegan businesses can be the swiftest departures of them all. It is extremely difficult to stay afloat at the best of times and even harder when you are part of a ‘niche’ market.

I am sad to hear of the closure of a gorgeous vegan cafe in Barcelona called Vegan Bakery. I had only just visited a few months ago and now it appears to be no more. I’m not on the ground in that town to do my usual snooping, but I have seen whispers on the Internet that the close is temporary until a new location is found.

I would love to hear from anyone involved in the cafe or anyone with information on their future. It won’t be too long before I’m heading back that way and I would really love to support their endeavours.

Until then, take a sneak peak of what I enjoyed during my recent visit to Vegan Bakery.

Waah, I go to Barclona every year and didn’t know this was even there. Hope they find a new home.

Warm *potato* flan?! I’ve never heard of such a thing! How was the texture? Was it sweet and custardy?

  3. Jeff Peters says:

Mmm … I have to find some vegan places around here. Looks delicious!

The warm potato “flan,” looks to be a vegan catalan truita, or spanish tortilla.eg http://fatmornings.com/recipes/Vegan+Spanish+Tortilla (really easy to make btw).

There have been a few things floating round as to why they closed.., but their facebook page states they are looking for a new place. Barcelona may well lose a few more places over the next year btw. The real problem is virtually everyone is selling the same stuff, made by the same people. And this one seemed to pick a rather expensive rental…? I doubt they traded enough to make it viable as every time I went past it was empty. Good luck to them though!

It’s not possible… I love the pastries, and the hamburguers, and the “tortilla”… But the pastries are the best!. They cannot close!
At least I image that the pastries will be in other shops, as they were when I was there last summer.
